Maddy + Jon and their maternity photos in Destin, Florida
Maddy and Jon are the definition of chill and here for the best time. I met Maddy and Jon through a mutual friend and we all clicked instantly (so it was an HONOR they asked me to take these photos), also a testament for the kind of humans they are, welcoming, loving, kind, hilarious, and just overall two of the greatest humans around. They are going to make the most incredible parents to this sweet little babe.
Picking the location for their Florida Maternity Photos
When it came time to picking the location for their session, we knew beach was where we wanted to go but as you can see Maddy and Jon have two labs, Beau and Bella and if we all know one thing about labs it’s that them + water do not mixxx well when they goal is to keep them dry and not taking a dip in the water. Plusss there are rules with having your dog on the beach that differ from county to county. They have a beautiful tree area and dock just a short drive from their house so we drove over there to get the cutest photos with the pups. The weather on this March day was one of those INSANELY foggy Florida days, if you know you know. We worked with it and it made for some of the coolestttt vibes. We did end up doing a second shoot to get more of a sunset at the beach vibe on a night that wasn’t foggy.
We need to take a moment for these pups, because if this isn’t the perfect example of why you should always include your dogs in your photoshoot, I don’t know what is.
What to wear to your Beachyyy Maternity Photos
I think the number one question with any photoshoot is “okay, great, we got it scheduled I’m so excited.. Now what am I going to wear?” This is where we get to have fun with it, lately I’ve seen a lot of jeans with a crop top or sports bra and a sweater or button up super trending. Even though it’s trending I feel like this has always been a long time casual laid back favorite for laid back lifestyle maternity sessions and honestly, I’m here for it forever. You also cannot go wrong with a dress. Maddy had two outfits, as you can see; one the jeans with a white tank and a pink button up and another was this beautiful satin gold dress that doubled as her baby shower dress. The gold was SO perfect for our first location, it really went well with the trees and was truly just a stunnerrrr in the fog, and along the palm leaves?! Perfection. If you’re thinking about what to wear and looking for recommendations, I would say the first and most important piece is to go with something you are comfortable in. Second, accentuate the bump!! Find a cute set, or a tight dress, show it off! Third, always talk with your photographer if you are questioning things. I always say that I’m your number one resource and bestie through the process am ALWAYS here to support my clients, that means help scout some locations, help pick outfits, and answer any questions.
Why you should hire a photographer who also does video
I mean how freaking cute is the video of their maternity session, I am obsessed. I hybrid shoot at almost all of my sessions so you have another way to look back on this time in your life and surprise, most of my clients don’t even know that I’m doing it. I am so excited about this specific project because later on when we go and do our newborn session, I can incorporate footage from both the maternity photoshoot and the newborn shoot to make the cutest little video that they can love forever. This moment in life goes by so fast and having multiple ways to look back on it is the most special thing. I am a SUCKER for a good video. Hiring a hybrid photographer/videographer is such a perfect way to ensure you have a smooth experience without having to have too many people at your session and it just all flows together so well.
