I’m spilling all the secrets on the best spots, outfit inspo, and tips for a fun, laid-back engagement shoot that’ll capture your love story perfectly. Let’s dive in!!
Best Locations for Engagement Photos in 30A
We already know the beach towns along 30A make for the perfect backdrops for breathtaking engagement photos. Let me just name a few favorites:
There are a few spots, like Alys Beach, that require you to either be staying there or have permission to take photos. But no worries—there are plenty of public beach accesses in and around these areas. Grayton Beach State Park, for example, is a stunning location with dreamy blue waters, perfect for capturing your love story.
If you’re more into nature vibes, definitely check out Eden Gardens State Park. It’s a beautiful, peaceful spot that offers a different kind of charm for your engagement session.
And for something a little more fun and unique, why not start or end your session at your favorite local bar, coffee shop, or carryout restaurant? If you’re getting married at one of the nearby venues, snapping some engagement photos there can be a super cute way to celebrate. The Pearl Hotel in Rosemary Beach is a perfect example—it not only makes for a stunning wedding venue but also has the most charming spots, like their restaurant and rooftop bar, to capture a few engagement shots! Check out some of the best 30A wedding venues here!
What to Wear for Your Engagement Photos
I get this question before almost every session, and I totally understand why. Finding outfits that match but aren’t too matchy, feeling comfortable yet stylish, and maybe even considering a change of looks—it can feel like there are endless decisions to make! My biggest piece of advice? Wear what you feel good in! It’s a perfect excuse to treat yourself to a new wardrobe piece you’ve had your eye on.
Another fantastic option is renting clothes. I know it might sound a little unconventional, but I’m actually super excited about it. Renting allows you to switch things up without the commitment of buying new pieces all the time. One of my favorite rental sites is Nuuly. You can save $$$ using this link to sign up, and I’ve even put together a list of some stunning pieces you can rent including dresses, sets, and tops to pair with jeans here!
Personally, I tend to lean towards neutrals or colors that complement the stunning views here in 30A. It’s all about making sure you feel confident, so go with what makes you shine! Check out some outfit inspo from the photos below from casual to dressy there’s tons of opportunities to make it you.
Tips for Making Your Engagement Photos Authentic and Fun
Okayyy we all want authentic, fun, and Pinterest worthy photos, am I right?! But you’re probably wondering how the heck we make that happen? My answer is that it’s actually quite simple and there's lots of things you can do or bring in to help ease the process. Here’s three tips I have to encourage this, let’s talk about it.
MOVEMENT BASED PROMPTS ARE KEY FOR CANDID PHOTOS I always say, movement-based prompts are everything when it comes to creating those natural, authentic photos you see all over Pinterest! I love starting sessions with something like, “I want you to walk away from me, and while you’re doing this, I want you to hug into each other or pull away a bit. No matter what—don’t stop touching, even if it’s just a fingertip.” It’s all about staying connected, moving together, and easing into the session without jumping right into stiff poses or staring into the camera lens.
Movement allows you to relax, feel more comfortable, and interact with each other, making it easier to get those in-between moments that feel genuine. Whether it’s twirling around, running toward the water, or just swaying side by side, prompts like these turn into moments of laughter, closeness, and spontaneity. These actions create photos where it’s less about the “perfect pose” and more about the real you—dancing, joking, and just having fun.
So when I’m prompting you to move, it’s because I want to capture more than just a photo. I want to show your love, your quirks, and your connection—those tiny, fleeting moments that turn into the memories you’ll treasure forever.
BRING IN YOUR FAVORITE THINGS Another way to make your engagement photos feel true to who you are as a couple is by incorporating your favorite activities and items. Maybe you two love playing card games? Let’s set up a little blanket on the beach, break out that deck, and capture a game while the sun sets. Taking time in between to cuddle up and steal a kiss makes it more you and less posed. Love painting? Bring some supplies and enjoy painting together during your session—it’s all about showcasing what you love doing together.
And if you’re into food or drinks, that’s another amazing way to add a little extra flair to your session. I love when couples bring something special like their favorite pizza or a cute charcuterie board to snack on. Not only is it a tasty idea, but it also turns your engagement photos into more of a relaxed, fun date night. Want to grab a drink during the session? Bring along a couple of your favorite canned cocktails (hello, High Noons 😉) and sip while we capture those candid moments.
MAKE IT A DATE NIGHT You can even take things up a notch by picking a location that’s special to you both. For example, I recently had a couple that loves dive bars, so we wrapped up their session at one of their favorite spots, just hanging out and having a drink. We started at the beach for that classic 30A vibe and then headed over to the bar for some laid-back, intimate shots of them just being them.
The point is, making your session more than just a photo op—turning it into a mini date or bringing in a shared hobby—helps make your engagement photos feel like you. The result? A gallery full of real, fun, and genuine moments you’ll want to frame and show off forever!
When Is the Best Time for Engagement Photos in 30A?
I meannn, is it ever not a good time?! With nearly perfect weather year-round, there’s always a good day to be found—even during the colder or rainier seasons, 30A still has plenty of gorgeous days. Plus, different times of the year bring unique opportunities for wardrobe choices and fun activities to incorporate!
If we’re talking about the best time of day for your session, it all depends on the style and vibe you’re envisioning. Want that dreamy, golden hour glow? Then we’ll plan to shoot around sunset. Prefer a bright and sunny look with clear blue skies? Midday works perfectly for a sunny, vibrant feel. Or, if you want a more serene vibe, consider an early morning sunrise session—less crowds, stunning colors, and a calm, peaceful atmosphere all to yourselves.
No matter what time of day you choose, we can create magic together. The beauty of 30A, coupled with a little planning to match your vibe, means we can find the ideal time to capture photos you’ll love forever.
30A Engagement Sessions
First up, we’ve got Caitlin and Royce – they had such a blast during their beach session (and so did I)! We captured all the fun moments in photos and a little video that I’m so excited to incorporate into their wedding film next year. Click the photo to see the full blog post on their dreamy engagement session!
Next is Steph and Declan – this one was seriously so fun. We started at the Marina Bar, a local spot in SanDestin where they met and spent so much time when they lived here. We wrapped it up with a sunset session at Grayton Beach State Park. Just stunning vibes all around. I also captured video for their engagement session as another meaningful way to document their love story, and to feature in their wedding film next year!
And last, but definitely not least, we have Dan and Taylor – still obsessed with their photos and probably will be forever. Everything about this day was just chef’s kiss. From the perfect blue skies to their killer outfits (hellooo, those sunglasses?!), it all made for such a cool vibe. And, of course, we ended it at a local dive bar in Destin, because they LOVE dive bars (like I mentioned earlier) and it was so them.
